People Have the Power to Make Miracles Happen Personal Reflections About the Pompano Beach Florida Stake Projects By: Eliza Jane Farley Gomez, Director of Public Affairs, Pompano Beach Florida Stake, April 27, 2010 What does it mean to be a Zion People …. Ever think about that? I do, a lot , and maybe I'm strange for doing so…. OK, I love to read, (I have already previously established that I'm a bookworm), so I read my scriptures a lot…. But, when you read the scripture that says, "And the Lord called his people ZION, for they were of one heart, and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness, and there were no poor among them;" It makes you wonder.... just how a "people" go about doing all that….seriously…. I mean, we live in the days that kids have their very own handheld video games and mp3 players, so they...

Twenty Minutes More

Twenty minutes more-- sighhhhhhinnnnggg to keep dreaming as i sleep, sleeping you to me… eyes go right thru me, arms go around me, skin sticks against me…. you linger in the air, just out of reach-- not really there…. reaching. reaching. reaching.... I DO. beseech thee-- give me twenty minutes more, before the alarm can do any harm to the magic I feel-- your hot hands of steel touch me and heal EVERYTHING that hurt before-- before i knew how to deal with the hand i've been given. feeling. feeling. feeling.... i strrrretchhhhh to hold heaven in your eyes-- that seal all our words from the night before…. praying. praying. praying.... give me twenty minutes more more of that heart-felt-and-tingled-- soft part YOU mingled with ME in the dark-- staying. staying. staying.... did you hear my heart pounding at the start of your words-- saying. saying. saying.... never leave me stay love and keep me just-- love me, twenty ...

Blanket

I feel you Throughout my day, In and out, And I feel so warm inside…. You keep me warm Arm draped over my waist Feeling you think of me Tingles you through to me Heart on the brink of your warmth…. Flow through my mind Helps me unwind Our thoughts, intertwined, Felt as one . I see you Throughout the night, Close my eyes, Let images of you flicker, Dance and glow, Like my own personal nightlight Inside. And I know . Turn into me, Pull up our blanket And smile, cuddle closer, Trace peace down the curve Of my back. Tickle backs of my eyes With dark, wordless smolderings That keeps body and soul Burning in tune with our bond. Blinking, you turn layers Like the pages of me, Not meant to be seen by The rest of the world. I hear you Throughout my dreams, Snuggle up in my sighs, Feel your skin on my thighs, Know your cool Makes my warm Warmer still. Ever still. Whispers of Whiskered breath brush, Softly fill up my head, Reach me out Lean to e...

Bookworm

Books and paper. That's what I'm talking about. Books And Paper…. How can you get the thrill of turning that page When there's no page to turn? Nowhere to burn The passion of the moment of the Action of the suspense Of the thought That's right around the corner On the Very NEXT Page. Hold that thought, Turn the page Smell the burning suspense Soak through the ink Makes you think Don't BLINK Or you'll MISS IT! There…. Ahhh….. Smell the Sweet Release of Reunion…. Just knew you'd Continue that thought. Fingers caress, stroke, Lingerly ginger the mind. Thumb the edges Flick, flip, hold, and TURN the Words upon words Thought after thought. Hands hold, rub, absently Trace down the spine of the story, Tease words into meaning more than the paper and ink on the page-- so much more than mere Books and paper. That's what I'm talking about. Slipping pieces of ribbon, Cloth, softly frayed yarn Snuggled into the ...

It's all about Hands....

Hmmmm....It's been awhile, and, while I don't exactly have a "devout" clamoring group of followers on this blog thing, not posting something  regularly has really bugged me--for a couple of reasons...First of all, I promised myself I was going to try to write a book this year (i.e., "the year of the book")....I was actually going to take a week off, sequester myself somewhere over on the ocean and drag it out of me by the roots...well, my goal was to begin by the end of January....so, since I couldn't really end up taking that time in January; I felt this blog thing would be a nice daily exercise in getting into the writing groove...in a non-poetical sorta way...to dedicate a time each day, spending at least 20-30 minutes daily just writing whatever flies into my vacutainer/cabezita :) So I was off...writing.... Well, I got sidetracked by ending one stressful job (actually somewhat of a milestone), beginning a brave-new world jobbie job, life just sorta...

Through the Looking Glass

Sometimes I gotta admit, I truly feel like I'm looking through the looking glass, things just seem that extremely odd and surreal. OK, so Alice in Wonderland was one of my all-time favorite books as a girl, SO WHAT? Now, I'm not saying that if I nibble a bit of cake that I'll grow into a giant—by today's societal standards, I already AM one. Standing Tall. Amazon Me ::beating her chest::….Nor am I saying that if I take a swig of something that I'll shrink into a mini-me ::stifling a giggle:::….Nor am I openly admitting to seeing talking rabbits run past me (believe me, my cat would take issue with that one). But, sometimes you take a look at your reflection in the mirror and see not your reflection, but the reflection of your life… Of what it might have been, what it would have been, what it could have been-- and see it flicker against the contrast of what your life actually is at the present moment. When you look in the mirror of your life, do you like what you...

Ode to Pink Suede-- #909B

Image
You know, it's truly amazing the amount of joy that comes from 99 cent lipstick. Seriously. Even now. These days you can't even buy gas for a buck, or candy, either; and almost nothing at the dollar store costs a buck these days (unless it's full of lead or other savory tidbits for us Consumers to enjoy)--know what I'm saying? So, the giddy feeling that fills me up whenever I find my precious 99 cent lipstick is a welcomed distraction to the economic woes we're all facing (at least, to me). Hey, what can I say, call it a cheap thrill--I'm guilty as charged!! Mmmmmmmm, mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmm...gotta love me some Pink Suede, baybee...only a dollar, and yet it slicks over my lips, caressing them, bathing them in creamy, frosty, makes-ya-wanna-nibble-me color. Not quite a pink, not quite a brown, not a freakish color--just the right balance of lucious, satiny goodness....all of this PURE PLEASURE for a buck! WOOO HOOO!!!! OK, I know this sounds funny, maybe eve...

Regroup, Reframe, REVEAL....

Just a minute.... That's really all life is, just a minute....blink, turn your head just a little, and you miss the whole point. So easy to do these days, all the distractions, all the choices, all the doodads and gadgets and stuff.... Took a walk on the beach almost two weeks ago on what was supposed to be rewardingly sinfully relaxing weekend, getting away just before embarking on a new professional journey. The end of an era--leaving a somewhat stable, albeit VERY stressful job, exploring a totally different non-governmental world for a promotional opportunity. Call me crazy for leaving a County job, I know. But something told me I had to go. So, listen to the inner voice did I.... Along the way to our weekend getaway, news of the sudden death of a dearest friend's father took the rewardingly sinful part and added a very humble and reflective quality to that brief walk on the beach--for which I'm so profoundly grateful. Took the seagulls' serenade, the ocean br...

Where's my "REBOOT" button??!!!

Those of you who know me fairly well, or those of you who ever had to room with me for any period of time know that mornings and I have some seriously conflicted issues--which translates politely to "ELIZA IS ALLERGIC TO MORNINGS. PERIOD." If you are gonna live with me somewhat peacefully and without dangerous (to you, that is) incident, there are a couple of ground rules ya gotta follow: first, do NOT talk to me (unless you're declaring your undying, eternal love and appreciation for me) and expect me to verbally acknowledge you, until AFTER I have showered--all you'll get is a glare, at best a grumble or growl...secondly, do NOT laugh, smile, or be excessively happy around me first thing in the mornings--there's very little I can tolerate less than the "shiny happy people" who seem to POP out of bed like a POP TART wearing a perma-grin and being all chatty n stuff---UGH!!!!! That's pretty much it, basically--is that too much to ask??!!! Just ...
