Where's my "REBOOT" button??!!!

Those of you who know me fairly well, or those of you who ever had to room with me for any period of time know that mornings and I have some seriously conflicted issues--which translates politely to "ELIZA IS ALLERGIC TO MORNINGS. PERIOD." If you are gonna live with me somewhat peacefully and without dangerous (to you, that is) incident, there are a couple of ground rules ya gotta follow: first, do NOT talk to me (unless you're declaring your undying, eternal love and appreciation for me) and expect me to verbally acknowledge you, until AFTER I have showered--all you'll get is a glare, at best a grumble or growl...secondly, do NOT laugh, smile, or be excessively happy around me first thing in the mornings--there's very little I can tolerate less than the "shiny happy people" who seem to POP out of bed like a POP TART wearing a perma-grin and being all chatty n stuff---UGH!!!!! That's pretty much it, basically--is that too much to ask??!!! Just

Artists and Creative People can COMMUNIFICATE....

OK, I can sense the puzzled looks THRU the bloody monitor... ya, I know I lost ya, but, once again, I had a burst of sudden linguisticality....of course, this sudden burst was prompted by my attending a workshop after work (ha ha, am I the ONLY one who finds humor in attending something called a WORKshop AFTER WORK???!!)... Well, the reason I did this is because I am part of a new program in my County, sponsored by the County's Cultural Division, based on the national program from America for the Arts, called "Emerging Cultural Leaders." There are 15 of us folks, gals and guys, from a variety of backgrounds, educational experience, artistic or creative persuasions, what have you--a real meltin-pot-think-tank kinda situation....we were chosen to participate in this unique 2-year program, volunteering our time to become more involved in the planning, administration, development, implementation, and support of our local arts and cultural programs in our community. Wh

What's on YOUR mental ipod?

I don't know about you, but I've always fantasized about being the lucky gal who gets to research and create all the soundtracks, using amazing music from the variety of different genres--I mean, how AWESOME would that be to get to do that for a living??!!!! Honestly!!!!! Watching the movies, reading the script, going thru thousands of songs and scores, sampling which ones MAKE the on-screen moments JUST RIGHT. Mmmmmmm, THE PERFECT DREAM JOB.... I mean, I seem to be prone to making mixes and compliation discs (used to be tapes, back in the day--ok, so that's dating me a bit--WHO CARES!!!), sharing them with friends, especially cruising round in the car, with the sunroof open, blasting my mix-o'-primo-tunages to edjumacate the ignorant nameless drivers in the hopes of raising the musical awareness in S. Florida to a whole-new-level.... But, I digress (see, I warned you, I'm prone to it, so just humor me).... OK, back to my original opening line...I was listening to m

OK, What exactly does "It is what it is" mean??!!!!

I mean, honestly, what the TWIZZZ does that really mean??!! Have you thought about it? HAVE YOU??? I hear it all the time, everywhere, in meetings, in hallways, on the radio or TV--my former boss used to say it all the time, became her novel catchphrase, just like "At the end of the day," or "Be that as it may," and then BAM!!!!!!! I start hearing it all over the place. Even to the point of my MOM telling me that her nephew had the greatest "zen" phrase that she wanted to share with me--guess what it was...c'mon, go ahead...."YES!!!! IT IS WHAT IT IS!!!!!" OK, I guess I'm venting a little, but every time I hear it, I take a moment to try to understand what this little, albeit ANNOYING, phrase means. So, humor me a little while I verbally muck around in the spirit of reaching for deep truth and meaning. Obviously I think it's trying to convey the thought that something can't be changed, no matter what, like it or not, (kinda like i

Hello, my name is Eliza, and I'm an Autopensologist....

A wha???????? What is THAT!!??? OK, again, quick aside: I tend to make up wordages that seem to fit more closely what I mean to say and say to mean even...after all, according to William Saffire, American English seems to be the only language at liberty to allow the freedom of arbritrarily creating new words/phrases/what have you.... Oh, did I mention I was an Inglushhhh Mayyjurrrrr ? How's that for phonetic spellings. FAU's Dr. Faraci would be proud :) But I digress.... Ahem...ok, the new word for the day is Autopensology: the study of thinking about oneself, to the point of ponderance, even....Hmmmm, so, thus it logically follows that one who regularly finds herself immersed in this study would aptly be referred to as an Autopensologist. Now, as to the etymological derivation of this new word, you bilingual espaneeeshhh espeekers can understand how I actually arrived at dubbing my newest word creation (i.e., "pensar")--newest, I say, for I have had many, ummmm, &q
Inaugurally yours.... OK, I guess it's about time that I finally put myself out there in bloggsville; I mean, after all, just about everyone I know seems to have one--"everyone's doing it, so why not ME??" is the rationale I'm using at present. And for those of you who know me, you KNOW how opinionated I am, and much of what I think seems to draw either chuckles or gasps, or even eye-rolling. So, in the spirit of expressing my true self, here ya go..... Since it's the start of a new year, and a new regime, I keep the quote in my head, "Hope springs eternal." Now, I know that politically and socially, our current system seems to be broken; but hopefully, not irreparably so. That depends on the folks on which it rests--US. Yup, WE the PEOPLE....From the lowest levels of our individual households, to our neighborhood associations, to local city/township communities, to counties, to states, to regions, to the FEDERAL level--it all begins with US. What wi
