Artists and Creative People can COMMUNIFICATE....

OK, I can sense the puzzled looks THRU the bloody monitor... ya, I know I lost ya, but, once again, I had a burst of sudden linguisticality....of course, this sudden burst was prompted by my attending a workshop after work (ha ha, am I the ONLY one who finds humor in attending something called a WORKshop AFTER WORK???!!)...
Well, the reason I did this is because I am part of a new program in my County, sponsored by the County's Cultural Division, based on the national program from America for the Arts, called "Emerging Cultural Leaders." There are 15 of us folks, gals and guys, from a variety of backgrounds, educational experience, artistic or creative persuasions, what have you--a real meltin-pot-think-tank kinda situation....we were chosen to participate in this unique 2-year program, volunteering our time to become more involved in the planning, administration, development, implementation, and support of our local arts and cultural programs in our community. What's involved? Well, regular meetings, workshops, attending and evaluating a variety ("Viva Varrrrrieeeetyyyyy!!!") of arts and cultural events around the County, signing up to work on a particular committee of the Cultural Council, which is the planning/advisory board that runs the show and recommends stuff to the County government to do on behalf of the arts and cultural stuff, do a lot of work (unpaid, if you will--like an intensive internship), get the opportunity to really network, dive deep into stuff, work to really evolve into strong cultural and arts leaders to further sustain and develop our community in creative ways :)

OK, Eliza, so, what the HOOOOOO does this have to do with YOU, a government worker in health care/social services/emergency planning??!!!! :::makin the eye-rollin "she's crazy" swirlie gesture in the air by her head":::: Well, let me put it to you this way: I could say I'm branching out to do my own creative version of "quality assurance/quality improvement" (I am a QA Coordinator by title, after all, it's not really that much of a stretch, call it "field research") for the overall quality of life for EVERYONE in the County via linking more intensely with the arts and cultural community--duhhh, the CREATIVE FOLKS THAT LOOK AT THINGS IN ALL SORTS OF WAYS--HEL-LOHHHHH!!! Hmmmm, wait, there's more...I've also likened this to "centering myself" professionally and taking this opportunity to professionally network, diversify, and expand my horizons, all the while making connections to tying ALL of this in together for the BIG PICTURE--call it my professionally ideal "systems approach" to seeing how the parts CAN be CREATIVELY combined to make a BETTER, HEALTHIER WHOLE for the overall IMPROVEMENT for the community where I live...i.e., Possibilities, Possibilities....(Did I mention I tend to see things this way all the time?)
Ah, but, ALAS, I DIGRESS....::deep sigh, deeply inhaling the savory smells of a late-nite-breakfast--such a simple indulgance that reminds me that I CAN HAVE BREAKFAST ANYTIME I WANT--I'll never grow up :)::::
OK, so, back to my somewhat ephiphanistic/revelatory thought--sitting there, in this workshop, learning more specific nuts and bolts about what really happens in the cultural/arts grantwriting/awarding/implementation/evaluation process, looking at examples in recent history of success stories that have had positive impacts on our overall quality of life; my mind began wanderin, and my ol' wheels in my brain began a-turnin'....and here's where my word invention skillz began to bubble and brew....if we view the artist, in the social sense, the philosophical sense, and the political sense, we begin to ponder about things like artists relating to "community," or, the ability of art to "unify" or "communicate," and you start seeing the path where I'm sorta goin....
I, or any artist, creative person, possessing the desire to serve, lead, learn, connect, and work to make a difference in life, as the role of "artist" they can blend all these concepts together: THEY CAN COMMUNIFICATE....looking at issues, concerns, situations, programs, challenges in a different way, bringing different people together, can create a totally different approach to solve or resolve issues and have the SYNERGY to create that better quality of life. OK, call me idealistic, but I truly believe this can, does, and WILL work....if you get time, go check out "Animating Democracy" from America for the Arts...http://www.artsusa.org/animatingdemocracy
and let me know whatcha think....

  1. I'm still learning to interact without throwing poo.

My what long post's you have! I'm starting to get Blog envy.

As a man practiced in the fine studies of musical arts, I must admit that it takes a certain something intangible to be able to communicate emotion and thought through rhythmic intonations. I marvel at just how much music can inspire one to elevated principles rarely achieved by any other means. Singing a song like "Still, Still, Still" doesn't work unless you have experienced the quiet sound a snow flake makes as it lands gently on the ground. The arts definitely have a way of calling on your upmost attention to detail and then loosing yourself in the grandeur of the beauty inspired by a higher source. The real beauty of which is that each of the fine arts is unique an infinitely inspirational. And then on top of that each inspiration causes a different reaction to everyone it touches. The possibilities are infinitely limitless. Kind of like the 10th dimension.
It's the realization of every conceivable possibility in the known universe from beginning to end and all of the possible tangents and their possible ends infinitely. And if my explanation doesn't work try this video:
